About

At FOSTERD, we believe that stories have the power to heal, connect, and create change. Our project was born from lived experience in foster care and a deep commitment to reimagining what support, belonging & community can look like for children, youth, and alumni of care.

Our Mission

Mission Statement: Changing the narrative for our youth in care.

The FOSTERD Project exists to:

  • Amplify Voices: Sharing raw, authentic stories from foster care alumni, caretakers, and community leaders, shining light on resilience, hardship, and hope.
  • Build Community: Creating spaces, online and in-person, that foster connection, mentorship, and healing through shared experiences.
  • Drive Change: Challenging old narratives, raising awareness, and building sustainable, community-driven solutions that address the gaps youth face during and after care.

Why We Exist

Too many young people exit foster care without the tools, relationships, or resources they need to thrive. Many face cycles of trauma, disconnection, homelessness, or isolation. The FOSTERD Project is here to break those cycles, providing platforms for expression, opportunities for growth, and communities of support that last long after care.

Our Vision

Vision Statement: To spark lasting change by providing an unshakable sense of belonging while guiding healing to empower stronger connections.

The FOSTERD Project unfolds in three phases:

  1. Storytelling & Awareness (Phase 1)
Traveling across Canada, we document and share foster care stories through podcasts, media & community events with speaking engagements. By creating an open, national conversation, we challenge stigma, build empathy, and inspire action.
  2. Community Spaces (Phase 2)
Establishing innovative gathering places, the FOSTERD Social Hall will be a venue for dances, concerts, yoga, sound baths & other community fundraisers. These spaces fuel connection based on a sober narrative while generating revenue to sustain our mission.
  3. Long-Term Foster Home (Phase 3)
Building a long-term foster home in Alberta designed not just for survival, but for thriving. A place where children and youth can find stability, healing, mentorship, and the chance to discover who they are meant to be.

Our Commitment

  • Authenticity – We don’t shy away from the hard truths of foster care. We share stories as they are; raw, emotional, and real.
  • Healing & Growth – Our work is grounded in trauma-informed care, forgiveness, and resilience.
  • Sustainability – By blending media, events, and social enterprise, we ensure long-term impact beyond donations alone.
  • Leadership – We empower youth and alumni of care to become mentors, change-makers & leaders in their communities.

FOSTERD is more than a project—it’s a movement.
A movement to rewrite the foster care narrative.
A movement to transform pain into purpose.
A movement to ensure no child has to navigate life alone.

You, needs us. We need You.
